For this reason the minstrel models will generally have more volume and more bass than the mountain models. The minstrel may also fit better with your plan to down-tune, giving you an even warmer and deeper resonance. If guys here say they are good, then I'd bet they are good :-) I built a Carver gourd banjo kit and I was very happy with it. It's mostly sand, finish and assembly, but the banjo has a sweet sound and it was a lot of fun to build. Thanks for the response, Dave.
